Vieques, Puerto Rico

The island of Vieques in Puerto Rico is home to one of the brightest bioluminescent bays in the world. Making this Puerto Rican island popular for weekend getaways.

Try the short 30-minute flight from San Juan International Airport (SJU) or an even quicker 20-minute flight from Isla Grande Airport (SIG) to Vieques island & enjoy the amazing views.

How To Get There

Beach Hopping

La Chiva beach has white sand and is perfect for swimming & sunbathing. Getting to Playa Negro beach requires a short hike but the soft black sand beach is worth it.

Horseback Riding

A Horseback riding tour is a great way to see Vieques. I couldn't do this when I visited Vieques because of weather issues, but I would highly recommend it!

Snorkeling

You have the opportunity to go snorkeling with sea turtles and sting rays. You can snorkel on your own at Playa Pata Prieta or you can learn more about marine life by booking a guided tour.

If you want to get more active, try going on a cool jungle hike! You can hike to Cayo de Tierra, a beautiful small island attached by a sand bar to Vieques near Sun Bay Beach.

Hiking

Kayaking

Book a Kayak tour at Mosquito Bay at night to see the bioluminescent bay light up in the dark! The plankton glows when they are disturbed making this one amazing adventure.

Food Trucks

Food trucks are popular on Vieques. The food trucks gather each day in the parking lot at Esperanza Beach where you can enjoy the amazing BBQ and watermelon lemonade.

Take in a gorgeous beach sunset by walking along the main strip in Esperanza. There are even a handful of restaurants where you can grab a seat and a drink.
