Welcome to “Stuff You Should Know About” – a monthly collection of travel news, tips, photos, and other odds and ends that don’t really fit in anywhere else but that I still really want to share with you.
Random travel news
By now we've all heard about the United Airlines debacle, when a paying passenger was brutally dragged off a plane to make room for United crew. In response, United has pledged to reduce overbooking and raised what it's willing to pay travelers who volunteer to take a later flight from $1350 to $10,000. (How can I get on one of those $10,000 flights?!?)
Take my reader survey!
Every couple of years, I like to survey you guys, my readers, in order to find out how you travel and how you use my site.
I would love for you to take my latest reader survey! It's only 15 questions long and should take only about 5 minutes of your time.
AND, to add a little incentive, I'll be giving away some Amazon gift cards to survey participants. I'll give away one $50 gift card if I get 100 or less responses, and two $50 gift cards if more than 100 people help me out!

Top Instagram shots from the last month
Instagram is one of my favorite social networks. I mean, who doesn’t love pretty photos?? If you aren’t following already, follow me on Instagram @dangerousbiz!
Here are some of my most-liked photos from the last month or so:
Cape Town is an incredible city, whether you see it from in the air, on the ground, or on the water. (This photo was taken from in the air!) The city features in my latest blog post, which is an itinerary for the perfect South Africa trip. ?? Have you been to Cape Town, or South Africa? What were your favorite parts?
The colorful Champagne Pool in Rotorua's Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland is a place I can't wait to revisit and take more photos of! New Zealand is still extremely active geothermally, and Rotorua is one of the best places to see steaming pools and boiling mud. It doesn't smell great, but it sure is pretty!
Chicago is one of my favorite cities in the US, and I'm always so excited to spend a weekend here – especially when the weekend is as beautiful as this one! Millennium Park was crowded today, but it didn't deter me from snapping a few photos of The Cloud Gate (AKA “The Bean”) – it's just a must-visit for me in Chicago, no matter how many times I've seen it before. Where are my other Chicago fans at? What are some of your favorite things to do/see in the Windy City?

You should pack this
Each month, I’ll feature one or two of my packing must-haves. This section usually contains affiliate links, meaning that if you purchase through my link(s), I may earn a small commission (at no extra cost to you!).
This month, I’m recommending:
You guys know that I love packing cubes; it's really no secret! But with the busy summer travel season quickly approaching, I thought I'd remind you this month just how much I love packing cubes.
I use these handy cubes on just about any trip, whether I'm packing a suitcase, a backpack, or a rolling carry-on bag. Packing cubes come in multiple sizes, and usually fit together, puzzle-like, in any size bag. I use anywhere from 2-4 when I pack: one for shirts, one for dresses, one for sweaters, etc.
If you love being organized like me, then you really should invest in a set of these.
What I’m planning right now
Because my blog runs a little bit behind of what I’m currently doing, I figured I would use this monthly update to let you know what I’m up to, and what adventures are coming up next! (You can also find more detailed info in my monthly newsletter.)
May: Orlando – At the end of May, I'll be heading to Orlando for the grand opening of Universal's new water park, Volcano Bay. The media week is going to be jam-packed with cool behind-the-scenes opportunities, and I can't wait to hang out with some of my best blogger buds.
June: Oregon – Elliot and I are heading out to Oregon in early June to visit his sister, who lives in Bend. We’ll also road trip to some of the state’s other famous spots like Portland, Crater Lake, and the Painted Hills.
July: Scandinavia – Europe, here I come! I'll be spending all of July in Europe, with trips currently planned in Norway and the Faroe Islands. And while I’m over in that part of the world, I’m thinking I should probably finally visit Copenhagen, too!
July: Ireland – After Scandinavia, I'll be hopping over to Ireland to do a trip with Shamrocker Tours. I'll be doing their 5-day “Giant's Rocker” that mostly concentrates on the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland.
August: Road trip! – My sister and I are planning another road trip this summer in order to coincide with the solar eclipse on August 21. We’ve booked a hotel in Idaho for the eclipse, and plan to explore South Dakota and Wyoming on the way – I'll finally be visiting Yellowstone!
