This photo was taken on Kapiti Island, a nature preserve and bird sanctuary off the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island. This small island is home to some unique and rare native birds — as well as some stunning views. This shot was taken at the north end of the island, looking back toward Paraparaumu on the mainland.

Very nice. Next time you’re in Auckland, I highly recommend going to Rangitoto. I know – it’s “hiking” but really just walking, and it’s a beautiful place. An active volcano a few hundred years ago.. http://g.co/maps/gyruu
Thanks, Rob! And I’ve heard good things about Rangitoto, too. It sounds beautiful as well!
This one (http://www.pbase.com/rbphilip/image/132854045) and the next 7 are from Rangitoto.
Awww reminds me of home. Not kapiti Island, but New Zealand in general.

You’re very lucky to call New Zealand “home”! I’m not from there, but, in a way, it sometimes feels like “home” for me, too.
