Palm trees. A light, rolling blue-green surf. Families relaxing on the sand. Dogs on surfboards. And a slow, golden sunset.
This is the scene that greeted me last night at Hawaii’s famous Waikiki Beach. At around 6 p.m., most of the crowd that usually clutters the beach during the day had gone. The rental surfboards were being packed away, and the tiki torches were being lit. It was actually pretty peaceful.
And, watching the sun set over the Pacific was beautiful.
So here are a handful of photos from Waikiki Beach at sunset. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

I could have easily spent hours photographing this beach at sunset, if only the sun would have lasted longer before it sunk behind the clouds.
As it was, though, this was probably one of my favorite sunsets to date, simply because of the awesome pictures that were produced. I mean, can you ever go wrong with sunset on a beach with palm trees?
No, no you can’t.
Have you ever been to Waikiki Beach at sunset?

Pretty!

Thanks! I thought so, too. Then again, I feel like palm trees make any sunset look pretty…
Wow, these are gorgeous photos! I’d much rather be thinking of warm beaches and sunsets than the cold weather we are in the midst of right now. Thanks for the sunshine!
You’re very welcome! I unfortunately have to return to the cold and snow on Thursday…. boooooo. So hopefully looking at these photos will warm me up a bit, too.
Great pictures! The 3rd one is my favorite

Yes, these are definitely the quintessential Hawaii sunset shots, aren’t they? I completely lucked out and was at the beach at just the right time to catch this! Funny thing is, it was cloudy most of the afternoon before this.
So beautiful. Hawaii was my first vacation choice before I ultimately decided to go to Napa Valley. I can’t wait to finally go someday.

The beaches here are out of this world! So gorgeous. I hope you make it here someday. And someday soon!
Beautiful! The only thing better would be to be there myself (with fruity drink in hand). Looks like time in Hawaii has been great.

Amanda,
These are some great pictures! How cool that you got to go there!… Yes, I actually have been to Waikiki beach at sunset, and many of the other places you have been tweeting about recently… Isn’t Hawaii beautiful? In some parts they even have purple flowers on the beaches! I was really blown away by that.
Anyway, hope you are having a great time!

Nice shots. I think my best sunset photo was at Lanikai on Oahu. Lovely place.

Great photos! We are heading back to Oahu in just a few weeks – one of the legs of our “mindful” mileage run – and can;t wait to spend some quality time staring at the horizon.

Your mileage run is going to be so epic! Too bad we weren’t on Oahu at the same time, though!
I don’t think I will ever get tired of sunset pictures. The golds you captures are fantastic!

I’ll do my best to use my mind skillz to send some sunshine your way. No promises, though…
I loved reading this blog post! I felt as if I were back in Hawaii! This particular blog post was so simple but captivating. The use of photography and creative writing made me feel as if I were actually on Waikiki Beach. Your use of short, but creative, sentences have inspired me to become more creative when I write my own blog posts. Using a “catchy” lead into your blog really helps capture your audience’s attention. Also your use of photography was amazing. The pictures tell a story. I look forward to reading more of your blog posts!
Thanks, Joseph! I’m glad you enjoyed this post so much.
Palm trees shadowed by the sunset make such lovely photos! I’ve been to Kauai but never Waikiki. Maybe one day…

I’ve only ever been to Maui, but the sunsets there were just magical. Great shots!
