A popular spot to visit in New Zealand is the Bay of Islands region, on the country’s North Island. The area itself is beautiful, and offers up a variety of activities, from cruises to kauri forest tours to dolphin watching. This photo was taken in the town of Paihia just after sunrise from the window of a B&B right on the water.

Paihia is the perfect little town in which to begin a Bay of Islands or Northland adventure — like a tour to Cape Reinga (the northernmost point in NZ) or 90 Mile Beach, which is an official, sandy state highway. If you’re looking for a place to relax, this is it.
