I started this blog because I had a wealth of travel-related writing taking up space either on my computer or in my head. And I wanted to get it all out there. But now, mostly everything I had written or had started writing is posted (with the exception of some “Lord of the Rings” in New Zealand pieces, which you can look forward to seeing soon), so I’ve decided my blog needs a new approach.

Now that I’ve got a real-person job that puts me behind a desk eight hours a day with little chance of exciting, exotic travel anywhere on the horizon, I know I likely won’t have any new travel stories to share or write about for a couple of months. So, although I can easily dredge up more things about New Zealand at the snap of a finger, I think I want to broaden my horizons a little.

I’ve been following the blog of Lindsay Clark for over a year now. Lindsay studied abroad in college, spent a semester at sea, and last year got the sweet gig of being one of STA Travel’s World Traveler Interns. I’ve followed her travel blog with envious abandon, becoming insanely jealous of her adventures and seemingly effortless, witty writing style. And, recently, I’ve become even more jealous, because she is turning her passion into her career. Through her travel blog, she got a real-person job. One that will pay her money to do what she loves.

I’m not saying I expect to be “discovered” like Lindsay through my blog. (I don’t think I’m nearly good enough at writing, photography, or being generally awesome to warrant that kind of luck.) But I do want to post more about travel, even if it isn’t travel that I’m currently doing. Because, when it comes down to it, that’s what this blog is really all about.

So, from here on out, I’m going to supplement my own travel writing with links and videos and cool tidbits about the world that I find out there in the vast wilderness of the Internet. Expect odd and amusing things, as that’s the sort of stuff I seem to gravitate toward. Oh, and don’t be surprised if I throw in a daily dose of New Zealand.  ;)

Hopefully broadening my travel blogging horizons will help me broaden other things. Like my readership, for example. I suppose, as my friend Alison would say, TWT. Time will tell.

  1. haha. TWT. my 8th grade algebra teacher continues to live infamously on.

    • Yes. And I want you to know that I heard you saying “TWT” in that slightly weird, drawn-out way that you say it when imitating said teacher in my head when I wrote that.
